This audioscape was commissioned as part of The National Festival of Making 2018. It takes the listener on an immersive journey through Tony’s Empress Ballroom, known as ‘the heart and soul of dancing’ in Blackburn.

Northern Soul classics were intertwined with human voices and industrial sounds taken from the factory floor. Driving towards a sonic conclusion, this thought-provoking piece comments on the ‘work hard, play hard’ cultures of Northern towns where work ruled the week and dancing ruled the weekend.
